Open Streets on State Street,

Saturday, October 1st

Chicago Loop Alliance, in partnership with Active Transportation Alliance, is creating the ultimate "good" day by transforming a seven-block stretch of State Street, from Lake to Van Buren, into an urban playground for all ages on Saturday, October 1, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The first-ever Open Streets on State Street, presented by Illinois Center for Broadcasting, will create a safe public space in a car-free setting where communities can connect, families and friends can exercise and play, and businesses can engage with the public. Open Streets is modeled after similar car-free events held in cities around the world from New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles, to Bogota, Colombia, which holds its iconic "Ciclovia" event every Sunday of the year.

Free recreational programming being offered to the public at Open Streets on State Street includes a mobile skate park, break dancing demonstrations, yoga classes and the Imagination Playground for children.

The initiative has already garnered media attention since its announcement on Tuesday, September 6th. Media coverage includes Chicago Sun Times, WLS-AM, Chicagoist.com, CarFreeChicago.com and ExploreChicago.com.
