Cultural tourism is a core value for the Bronzeville Art District (BAD) partners. We offer tourism experiences that let visitors participate in local cultural activities, such as festivals and art walks. This provides an opportunity for visitors to enjoy a genuine cultural exchange with the local Bronzeville Neighborhood. We invite you to join us on the 3rd Friday of each month, from June through September, for the Bronzeville Art District 3rd Friday Trolley Tour. You can ride the double-decker buses throughout the community to visit five galleries, art institutions, and art studios. Enjoy fantastic art, music, live entertainment, and more!

CHICAGO – Bronzeville is again a focal point for Chicago's vibrant African American culture.  Like Harlem in New York, Bronzeville is a community where Chicago's African American music, Literature, Fine Art, and Theater historically thrived.  The Bronzeville Art District (BAD) currently comprises five established visual art spaces that work together to focus and drive cultural activities in the community, so that a distinctive cultural identity can be crystallized and communicated.

Creative Currency: Words to Live By

Chicago Calling, Phantom Gallery, and Caryl Alexander’s Artists With Purpose today announced a call for artists and designers to uniquely, and in collaboration with faith- and community-based organizations, “ante up” their creative currency in the run-up to the November elections and beyond.

Our challenge is to generate handmade YARD SIGNS that lift up our voices in our community's visual landscape with a message of Civility, Cooperation, Encouragement, and Peace.

The signs will be installed both in Chicago and in your own community.

With Chicago Calling and Phantom Gallery sponsoring an event in October 2012. which includes a possible event: the display of a Pinterest page with images from around the country, and Skype calls with several of the organizations to share their experiences.

"House of Art" Berlin Art Club 2012

 The Berlin Art Club aims to be a "house of art," a home for all artists, visual artists, and performance artists, a place for art lovers of all genres. http://www.berlin-art-club.de/

We are planning to host large-scale and individual exhibitions by renowned artists and galleries from the Art-space of planet earth in Berlin. Artists should also be able to run workshops, so they can share their skills with interested parties. It should also be possible to give visiting artists the opportunity to work and live temporarily in Berlin, in the Berlin Art Club.

The Art Club Berlin is currently at the forefront of a number of activities concerning the presentation of art and artists.

Extraordinary situations require extraordinary measures!

Our intent to initiate the Berlin Art Club stems from recent years' experience and has existed mainly since October 2010. Actually, we wanted to take our time establishing our club and then start inviting artists and galleries from different exhibitions to join us.

In September 2011, BAC rented over 2,000 square meters of exhibition space to invite approximately 100 artists from around the world to inspire our art-tourists.

The deadline to participate in 2012 is July 21 if you are applying directly to BAC

· Accommodations: artists coming to Berlin will be given the address of a hotel, where they have to call and make a reservation. We will negotiate with the hotel manager to secure a fair price for all international and national guests. Our staff will be informing you about the hotel.

· Artists who would like to take part in the exhibition, but who will not attend personally, will be informed about the method and costs of achieving their plan. The registration form includes all basic information about the price. Our staff will advise you about the transport of the works and all other details.

· The entrance to the opening event is free. All other events are not. Artists will receive 2 free cards to give to friends or family members.

BAC - Berlin Art Club 2012. Phantom Gallery, Chicago. Curators should start raising money now to participate in a group exhibition/installation. We will be fundraising through our fiscal receiver, NYFA ArtSpire, for Berlin- Chicago Kaleidoscope. Our goal is $40,000 to cover all expenses (reimbursable) of participating artists/curators from Phantom Gallery Chicago and the International Art Group, who are our art partners.

The cost of taking part in the exhibition for galleries is as follows:

• 1800, 00 Euro for an area of 2 walls, each 4 meters long, and the area in between.
• But a gallery can, of course, rent more than one unit. If there is interest in a specific combination of walls, a deal can be reached to meet their needs.

I was invited out for FRIDAY JAZZ NIGHT- by Cynthia Williams, a member of the HIGH, who is a jazz enthusiast and art supporter. January's Friday Jazz performer is jazz organist, Ike Stubblefield. Friday Jazz is an evening of art and music held on the third Friday of each month, featuring live musical performances and extended hours with full gallery access.

Ike is currently touring worldwide while working on his new album with various musicians, including drummers Sonny Emory, Jeff Sipe, Marcus Williams, Little John Roberts, J.Fly, and Yonrico Scott; Jeff Coffin; saxophonist Freddy V.; trumpeter Joey Sommerville; guitarists Grant Green Jr., Mike Seal, and Derek Scott; and bassists Oteil Burbridge and Felix Pastorius. The album is slated for an early 2011 release.

You are invited to attend “Bicycles and the Arts,” a multidisciplinary event that takes place during the Fifth Annual Chicago Calling Arts Festival and Chicago Artists Month. This event explores the creative connections between two vital elements of culture and society.

One highlight is "Wheels on the Ground and in the Sky," a group exhibition featuring paintings, sculptures, and videos by various artists, including Andrew Delarosa, Janina Ciezadlo, John Bambino, Alpha Bruton, Regin Ingloria, Matt Weber, and Catie Olson. This exhibition includes Olson's piece, "Pigeon-toed About Homage," which is inspired by Jean Tinguely's "Homage to New York."

John Greenfield reads from his new book Bars Across America: Drinking and Biking from Coast to Coast;

Chicago Underground Library presents a Pop Up Library;

a musical ensemble performs -- Derek Repsch (electronics), Andrew Royal (violin), Robin Boudreaux (tenor saxophone), Dan Godston (trumpet), Alex Wing (guitar), and Jimmy Bennington (drums) -- including a telematic performance with an ensemble in Detroit and an homage to Frank Zappa’s 1963 appearance on The Steve Allen Show (when Zappa taught Allen how to play a bicycle and the Steve Allen Orchestra performed with the musical bicycles); conversations with bicycle groups in other communities across the U.S. via Skype, including Spearfish Bike Cooperative (Spearfish, SD) and the New Orleans Community Bike Project;

Images and sounds of projects by U.S. and international artists and organizations will be shown, including those by Ultra Grøn (Copenhagen), Emeka Ogboh (Lagos, Nigeria), and Cay Brøndum (Copenhagen).

 
“Bicycles and the Arts” involves partnerships with the Active Transportation Alliance, Copenhagen Cyclery, Working Bikes Cooperative, and the League of Illinois Bicyclists. We would also like to thank the Copenhagen Center for Traffic for their help. $7 suggested donation; all ages; open to the public.

Fifth Annual Chicago Calling Arts Festival
Chicago Calling is a multi-arts collaboration festival. During the Fifth Annual Chicago Calling Arts 
Chicago Calling is organized by the Borderbend Arts Collective, a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote the arts, to create opportunities for artists to explore new directions in and between art forms, and to engage the community. Annual Borderbend projects include Chicago Calling and the Mingus Awareness Project. Other organizations partner with Borderbend to enrich and extend the reach of its projects, such as the Experimental Piano Series, co-produced by the Chicago Composers Forum and Borderbend in partnership with the PianoForte Foundation.

Chicago Artists Month
Throughout October, you are invited to meet hundreds of Chicago visual artists at exhibitions, workshops, open studios, tours, neighborhood art walks, and more in venues across the city. Presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with more than 200 program partners, Chicago Artists Month aims to showcase the extraordinary talent and vibrancy of Chicago's art community.

This year's theme, "The City as Studio,” explores the impact of the urban environment on Chicago artists and their work, as well as the contributions artists make to the vitality of our city. The place where art is imagined and made, whether in a physical or virtual space, affects the idea, the process, and the final product. And the art, once created, leaves a mark on the place it occupies. Chicago Artists Month 2010 examines how the city influences art and artists, and how artists transform the city by contributing to civic dialogue and the quality of life.

The Sweet Tea & American Values exhibition is a glimpse into the absurd and, at times, distressing reality of our social experiment called the United States. The show is primarily comprised of meticulously hand-cut stencil work on canvas. Some of the work entitled No Race Creme references vintage skin-whitening advertisements from the early 1940s - '50s, with contemporary 'new' and 'improved' enhancements. 

While other works such as, The Oath Keepers engage conservative Christians and their historical commingling with war, violence and terror in America. A few works humorously highlight pop icons and political figures, including Michael Jackson, Thriller Zombie, former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (Shoe Shine Blago, Run, Blago, Run w/ balloon, and Jailhouse Elvis Blago). 

The show also envisions a possible future of a dream realized in works like People Party and Everyman. The result is a candid perspective, at times bittersweet yet always sincere.

Chicago artists currently engaged in contemporary art practice reflect the atmosphere heralding the next fine art renaissance. These artists from the African Diaspora create works that offer a breathtaking glimpse into global creativity, with Midwestern sensibilities, and a reach that extends nationally and internationally.

The current President of the DuSable Museum, Dr. Carol Adams, is committed to excellence and connecting with the contemporary fine art experience by collaborating with the Gallery Guichard Fine Art Gallery.

The Common Bonds exhibition  featured works by:

This exhibition opened with a reception featuring the presentation of five (5) paintings by nationally renowned Houston-based artist Ted Ellis. The paintings are a gift to the DuSable Museum collection from philanthropist Mr. Allen M. Turner. Mr. Allen M. Turner is chairman of the board of Columbia College Chicago’s Board of Trustees. He is a partner of the Pritzker Organization, a family investment firm. Turner is Chairman of the Visiting Committee on Visual Arts at the University of Chicago. He also serves on the committee on Modern and Contemporary Art at the Art Institute of Chicago; as a founding trustee of the Pritzker Architecture Prize; as a trustee of the Market Theatre, Johannesburg, South Africa; as a trustee of Columbia College; and as a trustee of the Newberry Library.

The Common Bonds exhibition opening was held on May 12, 2010, from 6pm until 9pm, with a presentation of Ted Ellis’s paintings at 7pm. The event was held at the DuSable Museum, which is located at 740 E. 56th Place in Chicago, IL. The exhibition will run through June 30, 2010.

50 ALDERMEN/50 ARTISTS: A group exhibition of portraits that will enable people to learn more about the 50 aldermen who make up the Chicago City Council, and raise awareness of local government. Aldermen serve four-year terms, during which they vote on regulations and rules that affect all of us. And sometimes they participate in the notorious Chicago political machine: Since 1974, 30 aldermen have been convicted of federal crimes ranging from tax evasion to bribery. (A couple of others died before going to trial.) Whether ethical or corrupt, aldermen make our city what it is and make Chicago's history. 50 ALDERMEN/50 ARTISTS hopes to acknowledge this fact and celebrate the richness of our local political culture.

In keeping with the spirit of 50 ALDERMEN/50 ARTISTS, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a nonprofit, non-partisan voter registration organization. Not only do we want to inform people about the aldermen who make a daily impact on our lives, but we also want to equip them with the tools to act on that information. The voter registration group, TBD, will register voters at the March 19 opening.
